First post! (Old Website Articles I)

So this is the first post I wrote on the first version of my website, when I foolishly thought that I could manage an entire site in HTML. To be fair, it did not even look that bad, it was just too much work to update it… but, for completeness’ sake, here it is…

SOB STORY

I like to think of myself as a fairly level-headed guy, somebody who does not get swept up by crazy crazes, or spends his entire life online, or anything. Certainly, the last thing on my mind would have been the creation of a blog, which by its very definition implies that I a) am indeed jumping on the bandwagon, b) have to spend a considerable amount of time online, in spite of the fact that I already do that during a regular workday. Also, I don’t even really like writing e-mails (not because I am oldfashioned, though, it’s just that I stare at my screen enough as it is), so why on Earth am I doing this?

Let me tell you…

The thing is, I DO spend most of my days in Berlin nowadays, as opposed to Utrecht where I was happily wiling my time away until I got my dream job, on the condition that I move to Berlin. Which is not so bad, considering that this city rocks! The downside is, however, that I have start all over again with finding people willing to listen to my incessant stream of semi-interesting information, while also leaving a destitute multitude behind in the Netherlands. People who are constantly wondering how I am, and what I am up to. It is for these people (you, probably) that I decided to start a website after all.

By way of warning: I do have some idea what I am going to put up here, and it won’t be anything like this here blog, which is supposed to be dull. None of that e/n stuff here! Or maybe, but at least it will be stuff that got me wondering rather than things that happened to me. Things like “Why did I start this site?” instead of “I started a website! Yay me!” Also, in the “medieval” category, I will try and keep everybody informed about my work – and keep stuff online for my (and your?) easy access from anywhere. All in all, it’s going to be one hack of a multi-purpose website, if I may say so myself! Of course, there are also photos somewhere, if I ever get around to finding a proper format.

Oh and it’s in English, mostly, because I might just aim for an international readership. Every once in a while, I might put up something in Dutch as well. It will work itself out I guess… Same goes for any contributions you might have, incidentally: anything goes, language-wise!

So that’s it for now. Thanks to Marc for hosting this monstrosity, and thanks to some unknown webjockey who made this website-template that I used.
